Hey Friend,
It’s not easy making a Star Wars film or a show. It’s a tough act to follow. There will be misses.
For the fan that no longer sees Star Wars as relatable, this is what happens when you inspire generations of filmmakers. Ten thousand views of one universe.
We used to imagine what the Clone Wars were like. We dreamed of making the Kessel Run. Everybody could be a Jedi because of Yoda. The magic of Star Wars was in all things implied. Then the prequels came, and all the games came, the books, the comics, the toothbrushes, soap…
Star Wars used to be a lady in neglige, seductive in soft light. Now, she’s under fluorescents with her butthole spread out. Some like that…
The reason new shows have a dour mood is because the prequels portrayed Jedi as Loveless, joyless cultists who rarely smile. Anakin Skywalker laughed and Loved more than the whole council, and look where that got him! It’s not easy writing from that lore.
Ever since seeing the original trilogy, I wanted to make a Star Wars film. It’s pure joy to see so many filmmakers get that shot. But to see such flippant hatred of their work is bullshit.
Don’t get swept up in the bullshit. Don’t let them stir your emotions for clicks. The game of algorithms and relevance leads people to hatred.
Social Media, a tool for the less civilized age.
Watch whatever Star Wars you like and move on with your life.
P.S. Since the prequels, C-SPAN is the only place I’ve seen more frowning faces.
